Trio of students forms News Port intern team this semester

For the 2015 fall semester, the New Mexico News Port is proud to have three Communication and Journalism students as interns. Our team is made up of Derrick Toledo, who will graduate in December; Kenneth Ferguson, who will graduate in May of 2016; and Emily Ediger who will graduate in May of 2017. These three students will be a key part to the New Mexico News Port this semester, working behind the scenes to help produce and edit content, update our website and coach other students. They will be integral to our Creative New Mexico project, in which we look at the innovation economy in the state.

Emily Ediger

Emily is a junior at the University of New Mexico who is double majoring in multimedia journalism and cultural anthropology. She is very interested in visual communication and loves to document experiences through photos and videos. She also loves to write and draw. Emily hopes that through her internship with the New Mexico News Port she can gain more experiences in web publishing and web design.

Kenneth Ferguson

Kenneth is a journalism and mass communication student at UNM and is set to graduate in May 2016. This semester, Kenneth is interning for the New Mexico News Port after spending the last two semesters contributing pieces to the News Port. In the past, he has filmed UNM soccer and volleyball games for LOBOTV and the Mountain West conference. In his free time, Kenneth also contributes to a NASCAR news website as well as a website about the National Hockey League (NHL).

Derrick Toledo

Derrick is a senior at the University of New Mexico studying multimedia journalism with a minor in marketing management. Derrick has interned with organizations including the Rio Rancho Observer, ABQ Live, Native America Calling and Generation Justice. He works as a freelance photographer at the New Mexico Daily Lobo. After he graduates in December, Derrick plans to attend graduate school at Florida State University.
